SHANNON JEANS CELEBRANT Introducing you all to this lovely lady Shannon, if you haven't been blessed to be in her presence then you are missing out. Her energy is electric and she just has this gorgeous way to make you smile. Shan specializes in Weddings and Elopements. As a celebrant the additional roles she takes on as are as follows: Head cheerleader, sheepherder, logistic stylist, educator, buttonhole pinner, potential disaster averter, chief counsellor, pseudo planner, pep talker/motivator, security guard, babysitter, personal assistant and so many more! When talking about how Shan got into business it's a super cute story. It actually happened by accident! Over 11 years ago, my good friend couldn’t find a celebrant she connected with. She knew I had a passion and skill for writing and public speaking so she signed me up to do the course. Here I am, 600+ weddings later, still having a ball and loving my work! I’m forever grateful for her foresight (and the lack of excellent celebrant options back then!!) Shannon's favourite thing about the wedding industry is the way you get to meet people from all walks of life, get invited into their inner sanctums, form strong ties and bonds and get to be a part of an incredibly special event/time of their lives. It’s really a privilege she never takes for granted! When talking to Shan about her favourite style within the work she does her response was a little like this "When my couples instill full confidence in me as a professional to do my job, it allows me to be at my best – and simultaneously showcase you as a couple in your best light. The real deal! If you want a stale, traditional ceremony, then I’m not your girl. If you want to take your guests on a rollercoaster of emotions, making them laugh one minute, nod their heads with acknowledgement and then tug on their heart strings the next, leaving them wanting more …. then we should talk! Shan has been so incredibly lucky to be involved in some pretty adventurous elopements; in the water, on paddleboards, in the snow, abseiling, on top of mountains, inside caves and so many more. She has to say though, weddings don’t have to be crazy to be memorable. They have to be real and a reflection of you as a couple. Those ones are the best and most memorable days for not only you, but for all involved. The one thing Shan asks all her couples to help her understand them and what they want is “Tell me what most frustrates you about your partner!” This question is guaranteed to make my couples smile, roll their eyes and immediately brings down any communication walls or inhibitions. In addition it also gives me the greatest insight into a couple’s relationship and personalities! It’s the catalyst in really understanding their vibe – and resultantly the vibe the ceremony should reflect! What is your most memorable event and why? The one that 100% reflects you in every way possible. It’s not fake. It’s not Pinterest influenced. It’s not what you think has to happen or done to keep a family member satisfied. It’s from YOUR heart, YOUR vision, and it’s so real. I know that’s not the answer you were expecting, or even the tangent you hoped for, but I promise the most real and reflective events ARE the best and most memorable! What is your favourite trend at the moment or something you would like to see in the industry? I’m a sucker for a micro ceremony, followed by a big party. I love the idea of separating the ‘marriage’ event from the ‘wedding’ event. And this can be as simple as the number of guests invited to each. I’m not talking different dates for each, or necessarily different venues/locations ….. more about really focusing on the ceremony being it’s own event. The whole concept opens up the doors to so many opportunities! Any advice for your clients in the planning phase of their wedding? You do you, and recruit a top class team of vendors you have faith in to bring your vision to reality – then let go of the planning reigns, and turn up and have fun!
