Real Wedding | Luke & Brittany
The wedding where tradition took a back seat and everyone had the time of their lives.
Some couples spend months scrolling Pinterest, trying to recreate someone else's wedding.
Luke and Brittany did the opposite.
From the very beginning, they had one simple goal: create a day that felt unmistakably like them. Relaxed. Personal. Full of good food, great music and all the people they love most. Less black-tie affair, more "the best house party you've ever been invited to."
Looking back, we'd say they absolutely nailed it.
It all started with a message...
Their story began back in 2014 when they met online. While most couples would have organised a coffee date within a week or two, Luke had other ideas.
Or perhaps... other nerves.
"We spoke for around six months before finally meeting because Luke was a bit too anxious," Brittany laughs.
When they eventually did meet, it wasn't even a date. Just a quick ten-minute catch-up in a car park after work to break the ice.
The first real date came later in Mornington. A pizza, a juice and a patch of grass in the sunshine.
Simple.
No grand gestures.
Just two people who already knew there was something different about each other.
Luke remembers being drawn to Brittany because she seemed wise beyond her years. Brittany says it was the conversations that hooked her.
"He was just different to anyone I'd ever met before."
Almost ten years later, not much had changed.
Luke proposed on Easter Sunday in the home they'd built together, with their Border Collie enthusiastically supervising the whole thing. Afterwards, they headed off to celebrate Easter with their closest family.
No overseas holiday.
No elaborate setup.
Just a proposal that felt exactly like them.
As it turns out, those four words would become the theme of their entire wedding.
Love at first sight... for the second time.
Some couples visit ten venues before making a decision.
Luke and Brittany needed one.
"The second we had our viewing, we knew."
It wasn't just the Shearing Shed itself that won them over. It was the entire feeling of the place. The Barn. The courtyard. The gardens. The relaxed country atmosphere. It all matched the picture they'd both been carrying around in their heads.
"It fitted exactly what we both had in our heads and hearts."
And when a venue already feels like your place before you've even booked it, the rest tends to fall into place.
Forget tradition. Do what feels right.
If there was one thing these two refused to do, it was plan a wedding around everyone else's expectations.
Instead, they planned it around themselves.
They weren't interested in squeezing every tradition into the day simply because that's what weddings are "supposed" to look like.
The vision was simple.
A beautiful ceremony.
An incredible celebration.
Then a relaxed evening where everyone could settle in, grab a drink, hit the dance floor and enjoy themselves.
Planning wasn't without its moments. Brittany tackled what felt like an endless stream of emails, there were plenty of decisions to make, and like every couple, they had moments of wondering whether everything would come together.
It did.
Mostly because they had a clear picture of what they wanted from the beginning, and every vendor they spoke to completely understood the assignment.
Two very different wedding mornings.
Like most weddings, the morning told two completely different stories.
Luke's morning looked like controlled chaos.
Dropping items at the venue.
Washing the four-wheel drives.
Coffee in Cowes with the boys.
Meeting photographers and videographers.
Checking into accommodation.
Then somehow squeezing himself and the groomsmen into wedding clothes in what he describes as a very chaotic twenty-five minutes.
Meanwhile, Brittany's morning couldn't have been more different.
Knowing she'd only become stressed if she felt rushed, she deliberately built extra time into the schedule. The nerves were definitely there after a restless night's sleep, but having an incredible team of vendors around her meant she could simply enjoy the morning, knowing everything else was quietly falling into place.
The moment everything became real.
Ask either of them about the most emotional part of the day and neither mentions the ceremony.
Instead, they both talk about their first look.
Away from the guests.
Away from the excitement.
Just the two of them.
For Brittany, it was their "we made it" moment.
For Luke, it was the beginning of an emotional day that never really stopped. After twelve months of planning, seeing every important person in their lives gathered together in one place was something he'll never forget.
The details that made it theirs.
One of our favourite things about this wedding was how confidently they ignored tradition.
Luke swapped the classic three-piece suit for something far more relaxed and perfectly suited to a warm November day. The boys wore earthy tones of brown, beige and olive green, while the bridesmaids stepped away from traditional gowns in favour of light yellow dresses that looked right at home amongst the gardens.
Even their Border Collie spent the day alongside them, stealing more than a few hearts.
Nothing had been chosen because it was trendy.
Everything had been chosen because it felt like them.
The best decision they made? Getting the formalities out of the way.
This might just be the piece of advice every future couple needs to hear.
Luke and Brittany flipped the traditional reception timeline on its head.
They cut the cake early.
They had their first dance early.
They kept speeches short.
By 7.30pm, every formality was done.
The rest of the night belonged to them.
No schedule.
No pressure.
Just dancing, laughing, eating and soaking up every moment with the people they'd spent a year bringing together.
It's something they say they'd recommend to every couple.
Six months later... people are still talking about the food.
There are plenty of compliments couples hope to hear after their wedding.
For Luke and Brittany, one keeps coming up over and over again.
The food.
"We still hear about it six months later."
As Luke puts it, "Food can make or break a wedding."
Fortunately, the menu wasn't the only thing guests couldn't stop talking about.
A soundtrack packed with pre-2010 favourites kept the dance floor full, incredible live music set the tone for the ceremony, and a dream team of vendors quietly worked behind the scenes to make everything feel effortless.
That's probably our favourite compliment of all.
Because when couples tell us they barely noticed everything happening in the background, we know we've done our job.
Advice from the newlyweds.
If Luke and Brittany could leave future couples with one piece of advice, it's beautifully simple.
Do what makes you happy.
Not your parents.
Not your friends.
Not social media.
If speeches aren't your thing, don't do them.
If you love the idea of a first look, have one.
If you don't want matching suits or traditional bridesmaid dresses, don't wear them.
Your wedding should feel like a celebration of your relationship, not someone else's expectations.
Looking back, that's exactly what made this wedding so memorable.
It wasn't trying to be perfect.
It was simply, unapologetically, Luke and Brittany.
And if there's one thing we'd change?
Apparently... we'd be finding room for a bucking bull.
Now that would have been one hell of a house party.
