How to write your own wedding vows

I know the thought of writing your own wedding vows might sound extremely overwhelming...
BUT I think its so beautiful. It will be well worth all those unpleasant feels in the lead up.
Getting to express your love to your significant other in front of all your nearest & dearest is so special!
It may feel like you are under extreme pressure thinking 'is what I'm writing good enough?' or just fear of writing anything of your own at all. I know it may seem daunting but there is also something that is just so powerful in saying words you have personally written.
Put those negative thoughts to the side & lets get writing.

• Say "I LOVE YOU"
• ​Share your own love stories
• Make it a bit humorous to take the nerves out
• Explain that you will be there for each other eternally
• ​Make promises to each other

First of all grab some paper & a pen then start to brainstorm. Here is a list of questions to think about answering so then from there you will find yourself coming up with some pretty great stuff! Then its just adding the finer details in the format.

1. At what moment did you think he/she was the one you wanted to marry & why?
2. Where was the first place you met & was it love at first sight?
3. ​When did you realise you were in love?
4. What inspires you the most about them?
5. What goals & values do you both share?
6. What have they taught you?
7. What are you most looking forward to in your future?
8. Whats the most annoying thing they do?
9. ​Whats your favourite thing about them?
10. Whats the funniest moment you have shared together?

So you might get the drift by now, just literally anything & everything about why you chose your lover!

the format

Try to nut out a formula together to help keep the vows consistent throughout the ceremony. 
​They don't have to be the same but if they are similar in format it will help a lot and it may help you feel more confident.
Agreeing to write the same amount of promises to each other & the same amount of vows will really help the process. Even giving yourself a word limit is a great idea so you don't dribble on about nothing ha ha. Whatever the format, if you both do similar you will be fine!
Here is a few examples of Vow starters & promises

• Vow - The first time I saw you, I...
• ​Promise- I promise to be... 
• Vow- You give me...
• Promise- I promise to love you...
• Vow- I vow to...
• Promise- I promise to always encourage...
• Vow- Together we will...
• Promise- ​I promise to respect you...

Important things to remember

• Start with a brainstorm then tackle your vows one little bit at a time.
• ​DO NOT leave it to the last minute - this is such a special day!
• Keep in mind there are absolutely no rules to what you include in your vows, I am a strong believer in choosing your own adventure!
• EVERYTHING you say is of importance - don't get yourself down!
• Really think about all those happy memories with your loved one & those words should  flow extremely well.
• You can both focus on having completely different vows then make it a surprise for your special day. Everything you do is of personal choice :)
• Confide in a friend, talk ideas & thoughts together to make the process a bit more fun!
• Lastly relax & enjoy writing your vows for your loved one!
