Flowers on your wedding day are a truly stunning addition to have. They can really make everything at your venue pop! There is quite a big variety in colour tones & you getting to choose absolutely everything you want is what makes all the fun!
Today I had a little chat with Corrie from Morrie & Maisie, we spoke about the difference in flowers whether they be fresh or artificial. This all comes down to what the couple want on their special day. I've found that around 57% of couples like to have fresh flowers whereas another 20% will opt for artificial, interestingly a further 23% of couples like to have a combination of real & artificial. With the ever growing trends in our society dried flowers are now extremely popular. Here is what I found out below chatting to the lovely Corrie.

Why choose fresh flowers

When it comes to choosing fresh flowers there are many factors to consider, firstly your colour palette for the day, this will help you decide whether you want more bright & vibrant with fresh or whether you like the look of preserved dried flowers. There is a large variety of colour within fresh florals that may suit your personal preferences.
Next I would be thinking about the smell of the fresh flowers on the day, it might make the experience a lot more memorable for you, if you are in to that or not (haha)
A lot of couples might have sentimental value to a particular flower or scent, then when they see or smell that particular flower in years to come they can remember back to that special day!
Fresh flowers can also mean a lot more to the couple as they might take a few pieces out of grandmas garden for the bouquet or be able to source your favourite flower from a friends garden.
With fresh flowers there is the whole natural organic side to it, it's so beautiful knowing they were grown then nurtured right up until they make it to your special day.

Nowadays it is the environment that everyone is trying to think about first, choosing fresh flowers for your day will mean they have been locally sourced & not flown in from China.

Why choose ARTIFICIAL flowers

There are a few main reasons behind choosing artificial flowers.
The colour choice, their lifespan, memories & trends. The dried flower look is becoming extremely popular now in every day life, not just weddings. A lot of people can do so much more with the dried flowers because they aren't as delicate. This also means you will be able to keep them for at least a year after your wedding day. If cost is a contributing factor some couples might like to go & get their own flowers to dry out for a cute DIY task for the wedding. With artificial flowers the colour palette to chose from is almost endless as you can dye them yourselves any colour. Organization could be another factor, you could want to have all your flowers arrangements done weeks prior so you can see what everything looks like, this is only possible with the artificial choice.
Some couples will see the huge benefits of a dried flower bouquet & decorations. They won't have to worry about them not making it to the event due to wilting in the heat or even suffering from allergies that often come with fresh floral arrangements.

What about a combo of real & ARTIFICIAL

Couples that use a combination of flowers usually comes down to availability.
The mixtures that are quite popular as of late are the terracotta burnt orange style flowers.
Another reason will be colour choice, the couple might really want a certain colour that is just not possible with fresh so they opt out for artificial.

Sustainability

I think it goes without saying that fresh flowers are more sustainable, they are grown in the ground naturally, meaning by the end they are fully biodegradable. Although in saying that the green foam that some florists use to keep the flowers together for table decorations is extremely toxic & not biodegradable. When talking to Corrie about what she uses, she is now using chicken wire if she has to for some arrangements otherwise using vases for sustainability. When choosing your flowers if thinking about a more sustainable future is your thing then go with fresh seasonal flowers sourced locally. If you don't like anything that is in season then you will have to import flowers & they usually come from China. Once again your dream your day choose your own adventure!
