FRIDAY THE 26 MARCH 2021BEFORE THE WEDDINGHow did you meet? We met when we were little kids as our parents are friends! The romance didn’t bloom until much later though How long have you been together? 3 years When did you know you had found your soul mate/ the one? When I arrived interstate to visit him early in our relationship, he had already stocked the fridge with almond milk because he heard me order it with my coffee once before! So thoughtful! What is something quirky about your partner? Something that drives you a little crazy but you love them regardless. He sings a lot in the morning when I am still half asleep! Drives me a bit crazy but at least it means he is happy. What was your first date? We went for swim at the beach and had pizza at an Italian restaurant. Max was very smooth and asked if I needed help putting sunscreen on my back- of course I said yes! haha Tell us about the proposal story? I thought we were just going out for lunch but we made a detour to one of our favourite bush/beach areas. With help from our mums, Max had set up a beautiful picnic complete with fairy lights, homemade mulled wine and flowers. He then read me a beautiful letter and asked me to marry him. He had chosen an aquamarine ring, made locally and ethically sourced- so very thoughtful! THE WEDDINGHow did you hear about us? What made you choose the shearing shed, what is the story behind choosing a venue?
We wanted to go somewhere a little bit further from home so that our guests could have a weekend getaway. I grew up going to Phillip Island every year so it felt so special to find The Shearing Shed. The relaxed and adaptable attitude of Abbie, along with the incredible menu and beautiful styling confirmed our decision. How was the lead up to your day? Explain the planning process We were a bit stressed because of the pandemic, having interstate friends and family but once we reached a point of letting go, we felt much better. We kept returning to what was important and that was that we were getting married! I think we kept our expectations low because we knew we had to be flexible with our plans, however this actually kept some of the smaller details in perspective for us. On the morning of our wedding we met together for a beach picnic, this really settled our nerves and helped us to connect before we met at the altar. Any funny stories or disaster leading up to your big day? Everything was actually surprisingly smooth!! Although there was a wasp floating around in front my face just before I was about to walk down the aisle! Maybe it liked my bouquet! Did you include any of the typical wedding traditions? We made sure to only include traditions that resonated with us. However, I think there’s a balance of not over analyzing because sometimes traditions are just fun (as long as you’re comfortable with their origin). What was your most memorable moment of the wedding? The dancing!! It was so much fun to let loose and dance to some classics! Everyone was so ready for a party after numerous lockdowns. Pinterest was probably your best friend! What was the inspiration behind all the styling/concept? We both love spending time outdoors, especially at the beach, so we tried to draw on tones of blue and beige. A big focus for us was also sourcing ethically and supporting local businesses. Words of wisdom for others planning a wedding? Try not to focus on everything being perfect, but rather on the soul behind it all- if the details are thoughtful and reflect you as a couple, that is the main thing! Rather than trying to have every little tradition or idea included, invest into the things that bring you the most joy. |
